Kundapur, Nov 6: Relating To an incident in which the officials had confiscated assets from the women's self-reliance centre in Vandse gram panchayat limits, the court, on Thursday November 5, ordered to return these assets to the supervisor of the said centre.

The court initiated this step after advocate Malyady Jayaram Shetty, filed private complaint on behalf of the centre's supervisor Mahalakshmi, in the chief civil judge and JMFC court stating that the things belonging to the centre had been robbed by the gram panchayat administrative officer Anjanadevi, development officer Roopa Gopi, secretary Shankar Acharya, tax collector Nagaraja, and an employee named Ashwin as well as taluk panchayat executive Keshava Shettigar.

The said centre was being operated in an old building that had been transferred to the gram panchayat by the district administration. The centre had 20 sewing machines, furniture, and other valuables which are needed to run the centre. Supervisor of the centre, Mahalakshmi, and others said that when they reached the centre on October 10 morning, they saw that the lock of the centre had been replaced and things lying inside had been carried away. They said that those named in a complaint filed by a neighbour, Manjunath Ganiga, had forcibly broken the lock and taken the things away in a lorry.

The court, which took cognizance of the complaint, appointed advocate Shankattu Umesh Shetty, as the commissioner to find out the things and hand them over to the court. The advocate took over possession of the things which were stored in a building at Vandse, and also the lorry that was used for transporting the goods and handed them over to the court on Wednesday.

On the basis of another petition filed by Mahalakshmi on Thursday, the court ordered to return all the things to her and instructed the local assistant superintendent of police to probe the incident.
