Mangaluru, Nov 14: To make November 14 memorable for the children, a day marking childhood was celebrated with fervour at St Agnes CBSE School.
Children's Day is celebrated to mark the birth anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru who was extremely fond of children. Even though the pandemic has kept the students physically apart and their presence is deeply missed in the temple of knowledge, the teachers with great love and affection stepped into the shoes of the students to make the day a significant one. The backdrop decorated creatively by the teachers was apt to the occasion.
The day began with a prayer service conducted by the teachers. Children are the light of the world. The prayer service conducted by the teachers clearly depicted the spirit of the occasion. To highlight the importance of the day, an informative speech was delivered by the principal Sr Maria Gracilda AC depicting the colours of the rainbow that provide the rich tones of life. The principal through her message urged the students to imbibe the qualities of being respectful, closeness to God, to be wise and creative, truthful, hopeful, courageous and to be passionate.
The best make the children good is to make them happy. A motivational song and skit were performed depicting the growth of a child with the support of teachers, family and well wishers moulded into a wonderful person. Renita Dsouza, counsellor at Fr Muller Education Institution wished and advised the children to make use of their time to relax, to introspect their strength and weaknesses to understand their potentials and not to consider this year as a waste. The tiny tots of grade 1 and II dressed up in the best attire as Prince and Princess. On behalf of the principal, the teaching and non-teaching faculty, teacher Nayana wished the students and gave a short message. The backdrop decorated creatively by the teachers was apt to the occasion. The programme was compered by teacher Josephine Ignetto.
The school assemblies in the morning are no more to be seen. Empty classrooms are gloomy and sad. Library books are so quiet. Computer lab keyboards and mouse have come to a still. Laboratory test tubes ask, when will the students come back? Blackboards are staring with big eyes all around, there is no one to look at them. The playground stands are waiting for basketball, shuttlecock and tennis ball to be tossed around. The school campus has declared a shutdown in agony. The teachers expressed their sentiments holding placards and saying that they missed that noise which made them come alive.
