Last Living Star of Ziegfeld Follies Dies at 106


Los Angeles, May 12 (DPA): The last living star of the legendary Broadway dancing girls, The Zeigfeld Follies, has died at age 106.

Doris Eaton Travis passed away Tuesday, according to a family statement issued by nephew Joe Eaton.

Born in 1904, she joined the Ziegfeld Follies in 1918 as the youngest-ever performer on the show, continued with the revue through the 1930s and appeared in numerous movies. She later become a successful dance instructor and returned to the stage in 1998 at the age of 94 for an AIDS benefit event.

She went on to appear at the annual Broadway Cares event almost every year, using her status as the last surviving member of the Ziegfeld Follies to raise AIDS awareness.
