Mangaluru, Nov 19: 'Deepavali' also called festival of lights was celebrated by the CODP staff on November 17 at CODP-ISD here.
The programme was presided over by Fr Oswald Monteiro, the director of CODP.
The programme commenced with a prayer and Lydia Moras welcomed the gathering. Signifying ‘Deepavali - the festival of lights’ the dignitaries and staff members lit up diyas that were placed amid a flower-decorated rangoli.
Fr Xavier Gomes, the former principal of St Philomena College, Puttur; Fr Vincent D'Souza, designate director of CODP, Reena D'Costa, coordinator of Educare Trust and Mamatha, animator of CODP were present on the dais.
Fr Oswald Monteiro, in his speech said that Deepavali is the festival of lights and that we should also shine and spread light among others. He then blessed this festival and wished happiness in everyone’s life.
Reena in her message said that Deepavali festival signifies the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil. These shining lights remind us to seek wisdom, to give thanks, and to always cherish and love the ones who grace our lives.
Fr Xavier Gomes and Fr Vincent DSouza wished all the participants Happy Deepavali and also peace, prosperity and goodness of this festival.
Mamatha explained the meaning and importance of Deepavali festival. She said that this festival brings oneness, equality and happiness to everyone’s life.
Revathi, the animator of CODP compered the programme and Vani proposed the vote of thanks.
