Obama to Honour Paul McCartney

Washington, May 25 (DPA): US President Barack Obama is to honour former Beatle Paul McCartney with a concert at the White House next month, officials said Monday.

McCartney is to be awarded the third Gershwin Prize for Popular Song from the Library of Congress, given for musicians with a lifetime achievement in the field. The award is named for songwriters George and Ira Gershwin, whose music in the 1920s and 1930s became a permanent part of US musical history.

The tribute concert in the White House's East Room June 2 will feature performances of McCartney's work by musicians such as Stevie Wonder, Faith Hill, Jonas Brothers, Dave Grohl, Jack White, Elvis Costello, Emmylou Harris, Herbie Hancock and Corinne Bailey Rae, the Library of Congress said.

Stevie Wonder and Paul Simon are previous honorees.
