Kasargod, May 26: Mungila Narayan Bhat (57), a senior advocate, who was a member of the local Bar Association and a resident of Mungila near Kumble, committed suicide by consuming poison in a hotel room near the new bus stand here on Monday May 24.

He had checked into the hotel room in the afternoon. As he did not open the doors till late evening, the workers of the lodge developed suspicion, and forced open the door to find the lifeless body of Bhat inside.

Bhat had been serving as a lawyer in the town since the last 20 years. The marriage of his daughter working in Bangalore was scheduled to be held on June 20. The family members say they are unable to think of any plausible reasons, which drove the lawyer towards taking this extreme step.

Post mortem of the body was conducted after the police inquest, at the general hospital here. A case was registered in the town police station here, relating to the incident.
