Mangaluru, Dec 16: A swimmer from Kundapur is all set to attempt to enter India Book of Records on December 18 by swimming in Padmasana posture and legs tied for one kilometre in the Arabian Sea.

Nagraj Kharvi is the swimmer who will try to set the record. He will breaststroke at Tannirbhavi.

Addressing media here on Wednesday December 16, Nagraj said, “I started swimming in the sea during my third grade. When I was working at Alike Sathysai, I was the instructor for swimming. I trained several students for 9 years. Later, I joined as a teacher at government school in Kalmanja where trainer B K Naik taught me different styles of swimming and made some corrections in my style. I have also learnt Yoga at Dharmasthala and took part in state level Yoga competition.

“In the month of February earlier this year, I took part in national level swimming event at Vadodara in Gujarat in which I bagged 2 gold medals and one bronze medal. I secured three gold medals in 2019 Master Games in state level swimming event.

“I thought of merging swimming and Yoga. I have been practicing breaststroke at Tannirbhavi beach for the last two months. I decided to attempt to enter India Book of Records by breast stroke swimming at Tannirbhavi in Padmasana posture with legs tied and cover one kilometre. When I approached India Book of Records, they responded positively and gave me the green signal. I have approached all the concerned departments for permission to make this happen,” he said.
