Udupi: 17,641 health personnel to be vaccinated against coronavirus in first phase

Udupi, Dec 18: As the district prepares for the coronavirus vaccinations to be available by the first quarter of 2021, arrangements to have an efficient application of the same is underway. “Preparations in the district are taken up to vaccinate 17,641 people employed in the government and private health sector in the first phase,” said district deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha. He was speaking after presiding over a meeting with the vaccination staff at the DC office on Friday, December 18.

“The first consignment of the vaccine is expected to arrive in the district in the first quarter of 2021. A data of 17,641 employees in government and private hospitals have also been prepared for the purpose,” he said.



“The government and private hospital staff have been also provided training regarding the process of vaccination. It is decided to administer two doses of vaccines per person. A special vaccine room has also been prepared. Over 1,324 vehicles are identified for transporting the vaccines. 342 government and 18 private spots have also been identified. Five persons will function at each of the vaccine centres. Waiting rooms, vaccination rooms and observation rooms are arranged for this purpose. The health department is directed to appoint nodal officers so as to ensure basic facilities in the rooms,” he said.

“Training for vaccination will be provided at the district level. The date for training at the taluk level has been finalized. The training process will be completed by December end,” said district vaccination officer Dr M G Rama.

District panchayat CEO Dr Navin Bhat, DHO Dr Sudhir Chandra Sooda, health department programme implementation officers and various department officials were present.
