Bengaluru: Second wave of coronavirus to hit Karnataka during end of January 2021

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (MS)

Bengaluru, Dec 22: Though it is winter in the state, the public is showing as if there is no effect of coronavirus pandemic at all in Karnataka as the cases of infections have come down drastically. However, the members of the technical committee of the government of Karnataka have warned people that the scare of second wave of coronavirus is still on and is expected to hit the state during the end of January 2021.

The technical committee for control of coronavirus pandemic formed by the government, headed by Dr M K Sudarshan, has submitted its report to the government in which has alerted the government that the second wave of coronavirus pandemic is likely to hit the state at the end of January or beginning of February 2021. It has asked the government to take necessary precautions from now itself. The committee has also alerted the government that if no guidelines are followed during Christmas and New Year celebration, then the wave might hit sooner than the expected time period.

Giving details on the subject, Dr Sachidananda, vice chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi Health University and member of the technical committee for coronavirus pandemic control in Karnataka said, "Coronavirus pandemic will not come under control until the vaccine arrives and more number of people take the same. At present the number of cases per day have come down to less than 1,000. However, as the winter continues till the month of March, if people lose their alertness, the second wave might hit anytime.

"Citizens have to compulsorily wear face masks and also follow social distancing. According to the recent guideline published by the government more than 100 people cannot attend a marriage function. For political and religious events, the number of participants is restricted to 200. For funeral rites only 50 people are allowed. These have to be followed strictly. In addition, guidelines for New Year celebration also have to be followed,” he said.

Dr Giridhar Babu, one more member of the technical committee said, "Coronavirus has completely changed its symptoms in London. They have imposed lockdown now. So in Karnataka, the public should not show any negligence. All the guidelines given by the government should be strictly followed. Though the government has said that the vaccine will arrive in January 2021, those who require it very urgently will be vaccinated first and for others it will be distributed in phases. So all have to be careful till the vaccine is available."

One more member of the technical committee, who wanted to remain anonymous said, "Karnataka has also got the concern of a second wave like many countries in the world. Second wave might get created after 45 days of reduction of infection of the first wave. So the next 20 days should be considered as critical."

@Sunil Pinto, there are a lot of differences between Spanish flu caused by H1N1 and Covid 19 caused by Corona.H1N1 is more lethal, Corona causes death mainly in comorbid patients and that too in a very small percentage- read what Pradeep has to say. Spanish flu is avian in origin Covid is zoonotic. In 1918-19 Spanish flu caused more deaths because of secondary bacterial infections which did not have much treatment, now the situation is totally different.Actually the total number of deaths in 2020 is 10% less than the previous year inspite of a higher population!! Spanish flu killed people Covid only killed economy.About vaccines we cannot be sure if mRNA based vaccines will work against the new strain but the vaccines based on inactivated or attenuated virus will definitely work.Just chill, no second wave of Covid will occur.

Even after officially 1 year of Wuhan (we now have forensic evidence that the pandemic hit globally so badly because it actually started atleast 4 months earlier in China), how come across all mainland China, they have not mentioned/reported of even a single new mutation/strain, which is completely impossible scientifically/biology/nature!
While the whole global scientific community is aware that based on history, any "zoonotic virus" mutates like crazy for survival in NATURE/UNIVERSE.
Strangely, our WHO chief is grounded & silent too, probably after the disaster in his Tigray.
    Beween 1917 to 1919, 5 times more died due to the Spanish flue's mutations...in 2nd & 3rd wave...
Luckily, we now technically have vaccines...that (version 1.0) are 99.9% elusive to most of us for a while....

Now billions of vaccines are in manufacturing / distribution stage and pharmaceutical mafia is worried as the so called Covid19 infections are decreasing. So they are creating new scare / phobia to ensure that their produce is sold. There is nothing called second wave or third wave.

My whole family contracted the virus few month back (incl. my aged parents with co-morbidities) . We stayed home, had sufficient vitamin supplements and fever medication. Covid19 is contagious like any other viral infection but not as deadly as it's being portrayed by media or Govt.

Take precautions against coronavirus before the second wave hits Karnataka or any other states and in fact any country. This Covid-19 has taken many lives and the worst is yet to be seen. But still I have seen many and many following the protocol issued by the health officials.

Yes . Second wave is already started everywhere including Karnataka. Don't wait for January end, close all the international and domestic flights immediately for one month or more.Be safe and cautious. Prevention is better than cure. This one is more dangerous than previous one.

Many of us may already be having antibodies, so the second wave may not be a possibility. Covid has nearly gone but Covid fear still persists.Mutation of viruses is known but may not pose any serious threat. The new strain detected in Britain and Denmark may spread faster but may not be more lethal.

Wrong. See the history of Spanish flu virus, which was the most lethal during its second and third wave. No guarantees yet if current vaccines can target mutations of Corona...

Season of Hindu festivals is over. People didn't stop visiting temples nor conducting of marriages is totally stopped. If such gatherings did not bring the number of Covid cases up, how come Christmas and New Year (1 + 1) - these two functions will shoot the numbers up ?

Please be logical when giving out some hypothesis.

Anna covid new wave starts after 3-4 months of first waves drop. This has nothing to do with Christmas new year's Diwali eid this is how the virus behaves. Karnataka will reach it's 3rd month after dip in January. Stop trying to spread falsehood and hatred in the society

Daniel, you didn't get the sarcasm in my comment. Just check with some Kuswar sellers - they are strictly warned not to display or sell it before 23rd. A friend abroad asked me to send him the items through a passenger and I went to shop from shop some days back searching for it. This is the reply I got from shops. Apparently crowding to buy those items increases virus spread. How did Diwali didn't increase it then ? Didn't people make any purchases ?? How about Church service then ?? Are you allowed to conduct/attend ??

It is then that I wondered if Corona hits after checking which community an individual belongs. See the roadshows in bengal - Corona fears Bengali speakers ???
