UAE : Devadiga Sangha Gears up for 19th Annual Day

Dubai, Jun 3: Devadiga Sangha, Dubai, UAE have geared up to host their 19th Annual 'UAE Devadiga Get-Together' on Firday 11th June, 2010 at Deira Sheraton, Al Muteena, Dubai.
The programme originally scheduled for 4th June, 2010 at the same venue got postponed due to the tragic air crash in Mangalore wherein 158 people lost their lives. With due respect to those who lost their lives, Devadiga Sangha postponed the event so as to hold until the mourning period is over. Unoion Minister of Law & Justice Dr.Veerappa Moily who originally had consented to be the Chief Guest cancelled his coming with due respect to those lost their lives in the tragedy.
Vaman Maroly founder President of Tulu Koota Doha and current Vice President of Devadiga Sangha Mangalore alongwith Dharmapal Devadiga, former President of Devadiga Sangha Mumbai will be the gues of honour.

This day long family socialising and entertainment function will be held between 9 am and 5 pm.
The name "Devadiga" is derived from archaic Tulu term "Deva Adiga" ('Devara Adiyalu' means "God's Worker"). Devadiga is a community of Hindu temple musicians hailing from the west coast of Karnataka, India. The community members are now scattered all over India mainly in Mumbai, Bangalore, Mangalore and other cosmopolites including overseas. However the major concentration of the population is still in Kanara Districts and many still practice this ancient art in all the temples of this historic area. Devadigas are also known as Moily & Sherigar and many sport these surnames. Devadigas, in the current world are fast improving and gaining strength economically, culturally, spiritually and politically. A large number of Devadigas had been settled in Persian Gulf including Middle East and Indian cities like Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore. They have contributed enormously for the community development.
Many dignitaries including the special invitees from Delhi, Mumbai, Mangalore, Bangalore and other Sanghas will be attending this gala event. The members of Devadiga Sangha have enthusiastically arranging a package packed with lot of fun and folklore which will include variety of dances by both children and adults, variety of Music specially presented by the famous Hindi Music Composer of Arab Origin supported by the famous musicians of UAE. Noted singers from UAE will be presenting beautiful ear pleasing numbers to keep you tapped to your feet. As said by the organizers there will be much more surprises which will be revealed on the day itself.
