Mangaluru, Jul 25: The Department of Medical Imaging Technology, Institute of Allied Health Sciences, Srinivas University successfully organized a full-day workshop titled ‘Masterclass in radiology: Modalities, safety & skills” on July 17 at the Engineering Block, Mukka Campus. The workshop was designed to enhance the academic knowledge and practical skills of students in radiological modalities, equipment safety, and diagnostic interpretation.
A total of 240 students from the Medical Imaging Technology (MIT) department actively participated in the event. The programme featured expert sessions by Dr Serene Balaji on image interpretation, Akshada Atchut Kauthankar on MRI instrumentation and safety and Vashist Baburao Mhalsekar on radiation safety and handling of radiology equipment.









A model and poster making competition based on the theme ‘Skill Development’ was held in the afternoon session, where students presented original, handmade models and posters that were evaluated on creativity, relevance, presentation, and technical content.
A total of 25 posters and 18 models were exhibited during the competition. In the poster making competition, the first prize was awarded to Ann Mary, Archa and Nandana for their presentation on ‘Role of USG’, while the second prize went to Libina, Sreeshma, and Thoufeek for their work on the ‘Electromagnetic Spectrum’.
In the model making competition, the first prize was won by Anjana, Nimisha, Navya, Theerta, and Swathy for their model on ‘Barium Swallow’, and the second prize was secured by Minhaj, Shibili, Meghana, Immanuel, and Ashwathy for their model on ‘Gamma Camera’.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by the presence of several dignitaries including Dr Vinod Hegde (HoD, Department of Radiodiagnosis, SIMS & RC), Dr Jaysree Bolar (Assistant registrar, Srinivas University), and Dr Ramakrishna Hegde (Dean, faculty of engineering), whose presence added significance to the occasion. The workshop was meticulously conducted under the guidance of Prof Pavana Krishnamoorthy (Dean, SIAHS) and coordinated by Savin K Vidyan (Course coordinator), with dedicated support from the organizing committee, faculty members, and student volunteers. Their collective efforts ensured the smooth execution and success of the workshop, making it a valuable and enriching experience for all participants.
