Rs. 7.56 cr Paid Among Air Crash Victims' Kin: Air India
Mangalore, Jun 4 (DHNS): Air India has disbursed Rs 7.56 cr as interim relief to 84 families of IX-812 air crash victims, as on Friday.
A press release from Air India stated that over the last two days a sum of Rs 57 lakh was disbursed to 30 people - 28 families of the victims and two survivors - being the relief announced by the Central Government through the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund. The Union Government had announced payment of Rs 2 lakh for the family of a deceased and Rs 50,000 for a survivor. This amount will also be paid to those who have claimed the Air India’s interim relief.
A team of senior officials from Air India had visited Mangalore on May 28 and 29, 2010 to assist the survivors and the relatives of the victims to claim compensation.
The team, accompanied by the solicitor officials of Mulla and Mulla, is meeting the survivors and relatives of the deceased in batches to provide clarifications on compensation, procedures, documentation etc.
Air India had announced an interim compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the family members of deceased adult (of above 12 years of age), Rs 5 lakh for a child (below 12 years of age) and Rs 2 lakh for a survivor.
Air India arranged disbursement of interim compensation of Rs 4.82 crore to 54 families on May 28 and 29, 2010. A sum of Rs 1.82 crore was paid to 20 families on June 3 and Rs 92 lakh disbursed to 10 families on Friday.
Assistance
The airline will continue to extend full assistance and support to all survivors, relatives of the crash victims, relatives of the crew members in all activities post crash including hospitalisation and care of the survivors, counselling for trauma, interim compensation and disbursal of personal effects etc. Air India’s special team of officials led by Executive Director (Finance) S Kundra, is in Mangalore from June 3, the release added.
AAI clarifies
The Airports Authority of India on Friday clarified that the Mangalore Airport Director had no intimation about the mass burial of March 22 air crash victims on Wednesday.
"The absence of the Airport Director during the mass burial away from the airport was not intentional as the programme was conducted by the district administration as per their own schedule without any intimation to the Airport Director," a statement issued by the AAI said.
The statement comes in the wake of reports in a section of the media about his absence in the mass burial.
The Airport Director had already approved and participated in three condolence meetings on airport premises of which one was conducted by the District Administration, it added.
