Bantwal: Robbery of home alone woman - Allegation found imaginary

Bantwal, Jan 6: It had been reported that a woman who was alone in her rented house in front of Kantadka mosque in Alike village near Vittal in the taluk, was robbed of her gold ornaments after tying her up. The police who investigated the case now have found that the complaint was not genuine.

The woman was aware that the policemen were on election duty. On the basis of this notion, she acted out a drama of robbery by concocting a story that miscreants came home when no one else was present, tied her up and robbed her valuables, Vittal police said.

It was said that the robber forced himself into the house when auto rickshaw driver Rafique and his son had left briefly for the afternoon namaz. Zainabi said that the thief bound her, and forcibly removed her ear rings, finger ring and chain, before locking the front door from inside and fleeing from the back door.

When she became increasingly aware that her drama could boomerang, she had thrown away her gold ornaments at a secluded spot. After the suspicion grew, the police questioned her neighbour after which the story unfolded. A few gold ornaments were later recovered by the police. The police said that Zainabi felt harassed at the problems created by her neighbour. She wanted to shift residence but her husband was not agreeable. She thought of faking the robbery in order to convince him to change his mind, the police stated.

The investigation was conducted by Vittal station house officer Vinod Reddy, under the leadership of police circle inspector T D Nagaraj, and guidance of assistant superintendent of police Valentine D'Souza.
