Mangalore, Jun 14: The coast guards here will soon be equipped with airbase, said coast guards commandant Padam Shekhar Jha.

Jha informed the presspersons on Sunday June 13 that the airbase will come up at 15.21 acre of land identified in Bajpe that the district administration has agreed to provide as per preliminary discussion. The airbase will need another 25 to 30 acres of land, he said.

The Dornier aircraft and Chetak helicopters will always be available for rescue operations when the ship and boats are in trouble in the rough sea. The Arabian sea turns turbulent during the four months of monsoons putting many a boats and ships in danger. During such emergencies if equipped with airbase the lives of many a coast guards, who throw open themselves during rescue operations are not exposed to danger apart of easing the process of salvage and rescue.
