Mangalore June 17:
Three houses in Adyar here were submerged in water following heavy rains on Thursday June 17.

Speaking to Daijiworld, Kamalaksha, a local resident who is working as an electrician said that the water flowing from Kulshekar, Padil and many other places gushes through the drain near the highway. The bed of the bridge across the drain possesses no required height due to which there is a blockade to the free flow of water, he added.

Another resident Padmavathi said that the engineers did not heed to the request of the locals while constructing the bridge. It was totally an unplanned construction, she alleged. She further alleged that the corporator of the area Mohan Padil took no interest to warn the engineer, about the badly constructed bridge with design flaws which has caused such a disaster.

Sub-inspector, Bunder station M Manjunath Shetty had advised in a meeting at Mangalore city corporation (MCC) on Tuesday June 15 that the concerned departments should work sincerely and solve the problems of public by taking immediate measures. But unfortunately no one had arrived to the spot to pump the water out of the houses and help the residents.

Executive Engineer of MCC Rajashaker was present on the spot who said that the bridge is not related to MCC but the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) who should take the responsibility for the incident.

During the past cogress rule, rain was plenty and there was no problems whatsoever except floddings due to heavy down pour. Now because of corrupt officials and corrupt govt, proper planning is not done and just contractors are given work in return for favours. Everything has been forgotten. These contractors and their beneficiaries have villas and big vehicles to move around. The common man becomes victim of these corrput practice. Just dont blame one particular govt. Lets blame the system and corrpution. All political parties are the same. People like Santosh just pen their comments with bias and doesnot want to admit the flaws the present administration is doing. As long as biased peole like him are around us, nothing concrete can be achieved and this miseries cant be curtailed. I am sure he must have built a bungallow form the dinars he earned, but in the sad process he forgot about the common and poor man who is living in the hut. Very sad indeed and most unfortunate.

Mr A S Mathews, every day there is a problem and rich people can't be dragged into it to shed the money. Even the Birds and Animals build nest away from rivers and ocean. Mankind is supposed to be smart and build their nest on side of hills and near the water body. Who is smart?
Second point is that these labor class people only work from Tuesday to Saturday while middle class works seven days in most cases. In good days they love to drink and go to cinema while we work. Also remember the floods of Karnataka where we donated lot of money through Social Organization and how many crores are missing. Let these people move away from river bed for a change. Adyar has been flooding for decades and this is not a new story at all.

The pictures are very sad to watch because these helpless people don'thave any way of escape.
Politicians are not concernedwith the suffering people, because politics is a business like any
other business. Most of the  politicians have made a fortune through politics.

If the rich people of each community won't get together  through social or religious
organizations, or individually, nothing can be changed.

Since Daijiworld is exposing the  pathetic plight of the poor people, some day, something good
will happen to help the needy in such desperate emergencies of life.
