Mangaluru, Feb 2: Dakshina Kannada district Congress president and MLC Harish Kumar, has urged Dakshina Kannada district deputy commisisoner to pass an order allowing movement of heavy vehicles on Charmadi ghat road.

"Charmadi ghat road happens to be the lifeline for the people of Dakshina Kannada. Movement of vehicles on the road had been suspended during the monsoon months due to heavy rains, landslide and road suffering heavy damages, through an order issued by the district administration. Thereafter, light vehicles were allowed to use the road. The road has since been renovated and the road is safe for heavy vehicles. Still the district administration has not allowed heavy vehicles to use this road. Because of the traffic ban, fruits, vegetables, food items and other things of necessity coming here by that road are not supplied properly in time, resulting in increased prices of commodities, he stated in a letter written to the deputy commissioner.

Kumar has asked the deputy commissioner to allow ten tonne capacity goods transport vehicles with six wheels and the KSRTC buses to move on this road as the people are eagerly waiting for it.
