Mangalore, Jul 4: A workshop for doctors for ethical practice of the profession was organized at the Indian Medical Association (IMA) House here on Saturday June 3.

On behalf of district health office (DHO), Dr Sudesh gave a presentation on the legal aspects and requirements of medical practices. He explained the system which the medical profession has to follow and what is being followed.

Deputy commissioner V Ponnuraj addressing the doctors attending the workshop said that people who are not committed to the profession cannot continue the medical profession. He said that doctors have to follow some rules and codes which will be brought into the amendment as per the request of the doctors.

“Poor people may find it difficult to get diagnosed if doctors provide bills to them is a false conception as all the hospitals have different treatments for the different classes of people. But doctors should not forget the code of the profession and must work sincerely lending a helping hand to people as doctors have a special place in the heart of the people from ancient times. Current doctors should maintain the tradition”, added Ponnuraj.

Doctors will be given three months time for the amendment to be made into legislation and the department will provide relaxation to the minor changes in the hospitals and the system.

Dr Mohandas Bhandary, president of IMA, Mangalore, and Dr Jagannath were also present at the function
