Puttur, Jul 4: “Problems that plague our community brethren should be treated as our enemies. Our aim should be to beat back these problems and build our society on a stronger footing,” advised Mangalore Kazi, Al-haj Twaka Musliyar. He was speaking after visiting Kalladka Jamaat and Shekhamale Jamaat on Friday July 2, in the second phase of his anti-dowry campaign.

He felt that the system of Jamaat needs to be strengthened further for driving away these problems. The members of the Jamaat committees, who had gathered to hear him, had a new experience of hearing fresh views of the Kazi.

Initially, the Kazi held consultations with the Kalladka Jamaat committee. During the course of the meeting, he expressed the view that Jamaat Committees should not confine themselves to the tasks of collecting donations, disbursing salaries to priests and supervising the progress of the mosques. He wanted them to keep regular contact with the families living within the Jamaat jurisdiction and to respond to the sorrows, problems or auspicious happenings within these families. “The Jamaat president and the Khateeb should work like two eyes of the local community. If they succeed in providing religious and social leadership to the local people, improvements become obvious in no time, he felt.

He also felt that unless the Jamaats take care of the education of children and put in efforts to deal with the problems like poverty, sickness and hunger, their duties can never be said to have been completely discharged. While giving a call to the Jamaat committees to become more proactive and put in efforts continuously for a healthy progress of the society, he asked them to be alert to the possibility of the dowry practice leading the community towards its doom.

“Young men, women and parents within the Jamaat limits should be taken into confidence, and they should be properly educated about the Islamic way of living, towards decimating the scourge of dowry. I am here to provide you guidance to root out this problem in phases,” he promised. He felt that attitudes like working to nullify efforts being made to respond to the problems of the community and passing sarcastic comments about such efforts do not behoove of a true Muslim. He termed good deeds, good behaviour and always preaching truth, as the three foremost qualities of a true Muslim. He said that a mega conference of Ulemas,Umeras and Jamaats will be conducted to discuss and take decisions to end dowry, on July 15.

During his visit to Shekhamale Jamaat, regarded as a Jamaat without the dowry problem, he congratulated the local people. He requested Muslims settled abroad to pray for the success of his efforts to lead the community on progressive path.

The Kazi thanked the media for the support extended to him in his relentless campaign against dowry. Muslim Central Committee secretary, Haneef Haji, Kalladka Jumma Masjid president, Sulaiman Haji, Shekhamale Jamaat president, K P Ahmedaji, Zaheer Puttur, Sirajuddin Haji etc., were present.

    Nazeer, Mangalore/ Riyadh,

The discussion is not based on the principles of RSS. The fact is that we are Indians and upliftment of our community is beneficial to all of us for various reasons.

A nation prospers when life expectancy of human beings is increased (is what I said about women's health below), infant mortality reduces (when we have less children and with sufficient gap between them) and people BPL are supported to cross the poverty line (i.e. eradication of dowry, promotion of education). At the same time, we must understand that increase of population of low income strata causes consumption of taxes collected to uplift them which, with our cooperation, could have been used for other developmental works. Every earning citizen adds to nation's per capita income. Only way of doing this is by reducing the number of dependants.

    Sajid,

Population IS nation's burden when one person earns and ten depend on him because the total income gets divided by 11. The govt must provide food, utility, education, medical, infrastructure to 10 with the tax paid by one. This amount will again be reduced if the family is BPL.

Do not compare India with China. In China one child per couple is a very strict rule. Their next generation will be half the present count, whereas, our ratio will be 2:10

Dear Lydia Lobo Kadri, Your claim for the high population in Muslim community, yes if you talk about a decade ago, then you are right. Now muslims are educating their children and they are following family planning. Earlier RSS was concerned about increasing Muslim population and now they are worried about increasing Chriatian population especially in karnataka. I suggest you to please visit RSS website and you will get the report. Earlier muslims are not properly educated and they even doesn't know that Islam is permitting the family planning or birth control. It is permissible to a muslim if he is unable to feed his family he can use safety measures for birth control. But permanent birth control is prohibited in Islam. Also killing of babies or fetuces also prohibited in Islam.

Have any of you pointed out the basic problem ? Population explosion ! The women are made to bear as many children as they can in their lifetime. Nobody cares how healthy she keeps or how each child-birth affects her. One wife dies he married again and continues to father children. When the first wife''s son is of marriageable age, the youngest wife continues to give birth. When the father dies who should look after the mothers and the children ? The older children ! It is important to treat the basic problem which eventually the nation''s burden.

It looks like these Musliyars and Thangals found a new way to become popular among the community and the media. If they are really honest in the matter, then the task should be appreciated and it is a must for every individual of this ummah to support such tasks. But,they should follow the path of our beloved prophet and the sahaabas(companions)of the prophet.Specially Umar ibn Khattab. They were hiding their good deeds and they never intended to make them in public.
