Probe Initiated into VIP Treatment to PM's 'Adviser'

Mohali (Punjab), July 17 (IANS) A high-level inquiry has been initiated into how a man pretending to be an adviser to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh -- and uncannily with the same name -- was provided security and other facilities in Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir. A case may be registered against him, police said here Saturday.

The Mohali Police had provided VIP security, including a pilot and escort jeeps, to take the man who called himself by the same name as the prime minister around the district.

However, later he was arrested in Jammu and Kashmir by the police there for posing as an adviser to the prime minister.

Punjab's Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), security, has directed an inspector general-ranked official to look into the matter and probe the circumstances that led the police to provide security cover to the pretender.

"We have informed the ADGP that we had got a fax message asking us to provide security and to make other necessary arrangements for the visit of the PM's adviser. Based on the inquiry we can also register a case against this fraud man," Mohali district police chief Gurpreet Singh Bhullar told IANS.

The fake adviser was nabbed July 13 in Katra town in Jammu and Kashmir after officials there got suspicious of him. But before the arrest, he had enjoyed the security and hospitality of the state government in visiting the Hindu shrine of Vaishno Devi.

In Punjab, the imposter got a government car with a red-beacon, police security and escort. Even Congress legislator from Mohali, Balbir Singh Sidhu, and other local politicians came to greet him here.

Sources in the state government said the man went around with the security and other facilities to Ludhiana and Amritsar cities in Punjab before going on to Jammu and Kashmir.

It is sad that to this day , after the British Raj, We have VIP treatment. If you ask me this is the worst malady of our society.

Except for PM and cabinet and CM's and High risk individuals in public life- no one should be getting it- no body , no exception, specially getting through the back door into temples and relegious places- Why do we need it- For 40 yrs the congress has used this culture to pamper themselves and to patronise friends and family!

WE work, pay taxes, pay for public and elected official including lodging, watch them loot us and then give them VIP treatment.

WE MUST Stand against this when we see it and call them out.

I was once travelling in economy class in the us on a domestic flight, and person next to me was the labor secretary and part of the cabinet! (Same as union labor minister). Nobody gave her 2 hoots except a hello from everyone out of respect. That is what I call public service.

When I was flying from mangalore to BOmbay, a flight stewerdess asked me to change my seat which was in the 1st row window, in an Indian Airlines flight . The reason: a Minister ( CONGRESS) needs that seat- I said NO and explained that I have paid for this and I was given this seat. They were angry and when the Minister came in I said hello, and he recognised me and made some small talk and kept going- it felt good I spoke up.
Let us not forget who we are and who is a VIP. Let us not make one out of no one. God Bless
