Mangaluru, Mar 20: Minister for Tourism C P Yogeshwar launched Journalists’ Welfare Fund here at Hotel Ocean Pearl on Saturday March 20, in a programme organized by Dakshina Kannada District Working Journalists’ Union (DKDWJU), Mangaluru Press Club and Patrika Bhavan Trust.
Addressing the gathering, Yogeshwar said, “The tourism portfolio for me was accidental. Journalists are always part of tourism sector as they have the perfect vision of developing tourist places in their respective areas. Journalists work in their limits with self-respect. They have always been my guide since I was in the film industry. I will handover Rs 5 lac to this fund. The government will definitely stand with the journalists.”
Former minister Krishna J Palemar said, “Journalists are in distress due to the pandemic as several of them lost jobs and salary been deducted by 30%. Even paying hospital bills for middle class families is a problem. The launch of welfare fund will help journalists. Even I will give Rs 5 lac to the fund.”
President of DKDWJU Srinivas Nayak Indaje welcomed the gathering. Ravindra Shetty compered the event.
Mayor Premananda Shetty, president of Mangaluru press club Annu Mangaluru, president of Patrika Bhavan Trust Ananda Shetty, general secretary DKDWJU Ibrahim Adkastala, and state executive committee member Jagannath Shetty Bala were present.
State to have six heliports to connect states major tourist spots
Yogeshwar during his interaction with media said that the state will have six heliports to connect states major tourist spots.
The interaction was held with various organisations and people representatives in order to promote tourism.
The minister said that Bengaluru, Mysuru, Hampi, Kalaburagi, Mangaluru and Hubballi will have heliports. We are also thinking to construct helipad close to heliport and survey has begun for the same, he said.
“The central government has approved the proposal of seaplane in the coastal region. It will be under Udan scheme. We have urged the government chief secretary to conduct survey for the same,” he said.
