Mangaluru: Newly laid concrete roads dug again - Taxpayers' money being wasted

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Mar 22: Beauty of the city, which is termed as Smart City, is being affected by unscientific work. At many places in the city, newly laid concrete roads are dug for various works. The public is urging Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) to take suitable action against the engineers for wasting taxpayers' money in this manner.

The road from PVS to Bunts Hostel was extended a few months ago. During that time, underground drainage was also newly laid. Now, this road is being dug again. Concrete road near Kudmul Ranga Rao girls' hostel is dug again. It is said that incorrect underground drainage work is the reason for digging the road again.

The road that was newly laid from Car Street to Sharavu temple was also dug in a similar manner a few days ago. This road was built just a month ago. It was dug again as pieces of concrete slabs fell into the open manholes due to negligence. This matter did not come to the notice of the respective engineer during the work. After a month, water from the manhole was leaking upwards, which was causing inconvenience to the nearby residents. So the newly built road was dug again.

Social worker G K Bhat says, "Due to the negligence of MCC engineers, at many places in the city, the roads are dug again and again. On the whole, due to the negligence of officials of MCC, taxpayers' money is being wasted."

On one end work related to Smart City is in progress while on the other work of gas pipeline laying by GAIL is going on. For this reason, roads are also being dug at many places in the city with the help of machines. In several places, this work is also left half done."

The concrete road that connects Jail Road to Bejai near the Kodialguthu crossroad has been dug four times in the past few months. As the underground drainage system was not okay, it was giving a foul smell to the residents of Kodialguthu crossroad. Still, MCC has failed to find any permanent solution for this problem.

Mayor Premanand Shetty of MCC says, "It has come to my notice that concrete roads throughout the city are dug again and again. I have already had discussions with concerned officials on this issue. I have taken this issue seriously. Concerned officials will be called and reason for the repeated digging will be asked and they will be warned."

There is no proper planning... wasting public money paid through various taxes...recover this money from elected members of corporation, MLA and concerned officers....let them pay fine for it. Totally money making is their motive... whichever party... when come to power they forget everything promised and simply try these circus to get commission...

By the time smart city is complete total Mangalore may become roadless city. When World countries try to minise expenses through modern scientific way of executing projects our corporations live by care a hoot attitude, wasting peoples taxed money. Possibilities may arise there by increasing all sort of taxes to increase govt. revenues

I am doubtful whether these engineers have degree . May be they came into this job after paying the bribe . These are all ideas of making money in the name of smart projects.ok fine with projects atleast these people can have a meeting and can start the work . Projects are smart but when these people will get smart?.wait and watch.learn from developed countries how they complete the projects.

Concrete road concept doesn't suit to our country. Please change the concept with Mud roads which are very much fine because we have all the things under the roads which need to be dug again and again. Mud roads are good which can absorb rain water, cool the nature, good for ground water management whic can solve water problem, can solve flood during rainy season to some extent. In future more digging will take place and will be a never ending problem. We can see almost all the concrete roads are marked in yellow rectangular lines for digging. Our work is lagging skills. I thank God that Phones are working with Telecom Towers or else they had to dig in the Smart City for cable laying, cable repairing till then no network, no comments.

Its the same story everywhere in India. We can attribute this lapse to under-qualified planners and lack of Engineering knowledge by the City bosses. Water Department, Electricity Department, Telephone department and Cable (some places) operators ... all dig and destroy the roads at different times and you find no footpaths for walking purposes. So it is a common phenomenon everywhere in India. City Planners must be sent for strenuous training outside of India. Look at Dubai.... Abu Dhabi..... Everything is planned so well that they do not touch their cemented roads unless it is a complete diversion. Go to Singapore. They all have plans for the city roads; we do not have regrettably.

I knew it.This will be not the end of process.Instead of getting angry with Ing.or contractor now ,why did one not simply controlled before ending ?Now MCC says they will be asked and warned?Hallo why now warning and ask?I suggest not only ask but fine them and let them repair on their own cost. That should have a validity for their work and garantie. This time please control again before the pond closes. Our Ingineers and their work.In MCC noone who can control this and has knowledge ?

"Concerned officials will be called and reason for the repeated digging will be asked and they will be warned." Here lies the problem. If it was "fined and sacked" instead of "warned" this problem would not have arose.
