Mangaluru: Unscientific road humps near Padua on NH invite danger

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Mar 23: The road humps that are fixed on national highway (NH) near Padua in the city is inviting danger to the vehicle riders.

This new road humps are put to prevent the speeding up of vehicles that arrive from Nanthoor end, which take turn. But there is danger that these very humps may become their death traps.

These road humps are put near Padua educational institute. All these are on the same side of the road. There are four humps which are at a greater height than the usual ones. There is every chance that the rider or driver may lose control of the vehicle as there are four humps.

Public is urging the administration to remove these unscientific humps immediately. Sometimes the engine of the vehicles stalls while negotiating these humps. This may cause the vehicle that is approaching behind to collide with the vehicle that is in front. Public is of the opinion that humps are required at that spot as there is educational institute nearby but they should be scientific.

Everyday many tankers ply on this road. Due to the leakage from this tankers many vehicles have skid in the past. That is why sand is put near the humps. This is also causing the vehicles to skid. Concerned department has to immediately look into this issue before any mishap takes place.

13 crores for Urwa market and some thousands wasted for this now. All are thieves. When. congis eat 70%, others eat 35%. Everyone is hand in glove with the builders. Nothing will change unless the public decides to change. We have waterways in the city, but not used. Solar potential, not used. Become a sportsperson and get 11 crores for gold medal or become a local politician and loot multiples of that without doing anything.

It's really nonsensical, had to use it today, just utterly nonsensical humps, a regular, single scientific one would do the job though it's meaningless to have one on highways.

Fit for collected water to pass from one side to the lower side. The know only to make and break. Roads are being converted and are broken for smart city. Waste of money and time and inconvenience to public.

Speed breakers being constructed against the Ministry’s policy of not providing them on the NH corridors. This is undesirable, as the function of the NH is to facilitate speedier movement of inter-city and inter-state vehicles through traffic. Speed breakers can be a source of serious hazards and accidents to fast moving vehicles.hazards and accidents to fast moving vehicles.

Control the vehicle speed by installing radars, cameras and signboards on National highways. Also construct pedestrian crossing underpass wherever feasible. Smart city should use modern technology.

Road humps design and construction has some international norms. Non of the transport dept people know about it. Nor do the PWD engineers seem to be aware of it. As a result, it is left to the contractor to design his own hump. In developed countries, first of all such humps are rare and used only in unavoidable situation. Here, every gully person demands and the local goons insist on this. As a result, they not only cause nuisance to vehicles, but also to even pedestrians. The breaking and acceleration adds to noise pollution. Fuel consumption increases. Real purpose for which they are provided, is not served. A well designed hump should have gradual upward slope, high point and gradual down gradient. By mistake if the driver misses the sign board, the vehicle does not hit the hump but only makes the vehicle to jump. Larger wheel vehicles should be able to negotiate the hump with ease. Provision of hump and the sign board by themselves reduce the chances of accident and not sudden hits. Let engineers design the humps and provide the designs to contractors, may be different types for individual application but not ramblers and non-sense of this kind.

Correct. And 1st of all there should not be there any humps in the highways which connects states. I travel to my office at night via nanthoor towards kadri circuit house and i had met this surprise humps the day they had put it. At night i coudnt see it and i was almost thrown from my 2 wheeler scooty. Common man its a highway. Who the hell puts a humps there in highway. They should make a OVERHEAD WALKWAY BRIDGE FOR PEOPLE TO CROSS!!!!!! The brains of these cops and city corporation never runs properly.

It is only in our country that the authorities put road humps on a national highway. Absolute nonsense. And many many places there are unscientific road humps. Not fit for sedans at all. Putting road humps is just an eye wash without a particular specification

Somebody tried to act Smart in our Smart City. The person responsible for the decision to install such humps on the highway should be asked to bear the cost of installing and now for removal. Why should our taxes go waste.

Such humps are generally seen on the inner roads or roads connecting the Highway..... Never seen such humps on the highway... It is like an open invitation to damage one's own vehicle, as also risk life...

Why cannot the MCC construct an overhead walkway instead of installing these humps? If we are talking SMART city, then we need the overhead walkway for the pedestrians. There is absolutely no thought given to the safety of the pedestrians nor to the college students that cheat death on a daily basis. It is a matter of time before a container falls off the trailer or an articulated trailer loses control & causes damage.
