Closure of Minor Ports a Major Drama, says Siddu

T.Begur, Jul 27 (PTI): The Congress on Tuesday termed the state government order for closure of ten ‘’minor" ports to check iron ore exports as an ‘’eyewash and drama’’, saying the export itself should have been banned instead.

''It is all an eye wash and drama. If Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa is concerned over protecting the state's resources, let him ban export of iron ore,'' Congress leader Siddaramaiah said before setting out on the third day of the party's ''Bellary Chalo'' padayatra against BJP government's alleged "misrule" and "failure" to check illegal mining.

Siddaramaiah's reaction came in the wake of Yeddyurappa announcing in Delhi yesterday that his government had ordered immediate closure of ten ports, except Mangalore Port which is under Centre's control, to check iron ore shipments for exports.

"The closure of ports is not an answer to Congress demand for a CBI probe into illegal mining", Siddaramaiah told reporters.

He alleged the ore was also being sent from fisheries ports, which had badly affected fishermen.

"The Padayatra launched on July 25 has been an overwhelming success as it has turned into a people's movement now," he said.

why don't you worry about what is going on in Kerala since you are physically in Kerala that will effect your daily life more than the BJP rule in Karnataka. There is very serious issue aboout taliban style functioning at some part of the society. You need to focus on that subject.

Closure of minor ports is not enough, please take action against the culprits, the Reddy brothers. Until and unless the issue is handed over to CBI, state police under your leadership can not do justice. If you take Siddaramaiah's statistics, Reddies looted Karnataka's wealth which is more than state's GDP. Poor people till remain as poor but you are encouraging single family to amass wealth, how it can be justified Mr. Yeddi?
