Mangalore, Aug 2: Deputy commissioner, V Ponnuraj visited Eliyar under Amblamogaru panchayat in the taluk on Monday August 2 wherein a massive landslide has continued to haunt residents from past four
days.

Speaking to presspersons, DC said that measures have been taken to shift the residents to safety. We have already identified the land and are waiting for the report of mining and geology department with
regard to the condition of the houses. Further, the shifting operations of critically damaged three houses and daivastana has already begun, whereas as a precautionary measure residents of five houses that are exposed to danger too have been asked to shift.

Mining and geology department deputy direcor Dr B M Ravindra too visited the spot and expressed concern that there were all possibilities of hill caving in if the rains continued to lash. However, landslides are common in coastal region, he noted.

It is said that the residents heard a crackling noise on Friday July 30, which they had ignored, even on Saturday July 31 situation continued. However, on Sunday August 1 the residents woke up to the
fact that the extent of damage was hard to be ignored. A daivastana of Panjurli deity is also suffering continuous damage.
