Bengaluru: PIL seeking stay on vaccination - HC imposes fine

Bengaluru, May 27: The state high court (HC) on Wednesday May 26, quashed a public interest litigation (PIL) that had sought a stay on the vaccination programme undertaken as a measure to manage coronavirus infection, without concluding clinical trials.

A retired army officer had filed this petition. After hearing the submissions on the petition, a division bench headed by Chief Justice A S Oka, dismissed the PIL and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on the petitioner.

The bench observed that the vaccination drive had begun in January. It observed that the petitioner had approached the court in May seeking a stay on vaccination, which it found to be not in order.

"Lacs of people are waiting to be vaccinated in the country. The courts have been delivering judgements after conducting hearing. This is an effort to waste the valuable time of the court," the bench commented.
