Mangaluru: Limited KSRTC buses become operational with handful of passengers

Mangaluru, Jun 24: KSRTC Puttur and Mangaluru divisions operated about 140 buses till the afternoon on Wednesday June 23. However, the number of passengers who made use of the bus services was very less.

Even though buses were permitted to move about in Dakshina Kannada district from Wednesday onward, private city buses were not operated. But KSRTC ran about 140 buses from the three depots in the city, as well as Puttur and Udupi.

The buses moving within Dakshina Kannada district were operated till 1 pm while buses running between different districts were run the whole day. Buses from Mangaluru were operated to places like Bengaluru, Davanagere, Hubballi etc except Mysuru and Madikeri said KSRTC divisional controller, Arun.

As many as 37 buses of Puttur, Dharmasthala, Sullia and BC Road also took to the roads. In the first phase, different taluk headquarters and cities were connected by buses. About ten buses left on Wednesday night to centres like Bengaluru, Hospet and Shivamogga. Puttur divisional controller, Jayakar Shetty, said that depending on the response of the passengers, the number of buses on local routes will be increased. He also said that if possible, on Thursday, ten additional buses would be run.
