Moodbidri, Sep 7: Mumbai-based John D’Silva Foundation felicitated top scoring SSLC students and parishioners residing under the deaneries of Karkala, Moodbidri, and Beltangady, in a function held
at Corpus Christi parish auditorium on Sunday September 5. The function was held under the joint auspices of John D’Silva Foundation and Moodbidri deanery Catholic Sabha.

Corpus Christi parish priest and deanery vicar Fr Austin Peris inaugurated the function and delivered the message on the occasion.

In his keynote address, Fr John Fernandes, chair in Christianity, Mangalore University said that education, future, and society are co- related. A child gets its first lessons from his/her mother and later
from the society. “Everyone in society owes his success to the society which he/she ought to return during their lifetime”, said Fr Fernandes.

Young lawyer Praveen Lobo Hospet offered information on government services and urged community students to pursue careers in state and union public services.

John D’Silva is a native of Sanoor in Karkala taluk who migrated to Mumbai many decades ago and became a pioneer of the co-operative movement. He is serving as the chairman of Model Co-operative Bank in the metro and with his commitment to serve the community he set up John D’Silva Foundation that has been engaged in charity work for the past 8 years.

Foundation chairman John D’Silva explained the chief objectives of the foundation that he established and felicitated the students on the occasion.

The Foundation has, for all these years, felicitated the top scorers in his native Karkala deanery. On Sunday, the Foundation honoured 29 parishioners and SSLC students from 29 parishes that come under
Karkala, Moodbidri, and Beltangady deaneries.
