Mangaluru, Jul 9: The under-construction railway overbridge at Pachanady has suddenly been witnessing frenzied activities. The bridge, work on which had stranded for about five years, is scheduled to be complete in about three months.
The southern railway has undertaken track doubling and electrification programme from Mangaluru Junction station. Under this work, the overbridge is being built at a cost of five crore rupees.
After the overbridge work, which initially progressed well and then stopped all of a sudden, got stranded, people had approached the concerned a number of times, urging them to complete the work.
The tracks doubling work had been undertaken by removing the old overbridge at Bondel-Pachanady. Before the work was suspended, concreting and girders had been undertaken. Now, girder fixing work is in progress for the last two weeks. The gates here used to be closed down for 30 minutes in the past, which created problems for the people from above places and the locals. Once the overbridge is completed, their problems will be addressed.
Before the Maravoor bridge crashed, people from Vamanjoor-Gurpur-Neermarga-Mallur etc used this road to reach the airport. But many were facing problems when the gate was closed.
