Mangaluru, Jul 17: Incessant rains have been lashing the district from the past five days.

Due to heavy rain, the APMC yard wall which is attached to Nalapad Kunil Towers at Bunder, collapsed on Saturday July 17. The incident left over 13 vehicles completely damaged.

A major tragedy was averted as usually children play in the flat premises. None of the children came out to the area due to rain. More than 13 vehicles were stuck underneath the debris.

A well, which is in the premises of the flat, is now filled with debris. The well water is now unfit to drink.

Apartment residents said that despite making several complaints regarding the wall which was posing danger, there was no response from the concerned authorities.

It looks so unscientific and unsafe to have such a high rise wall there. there may be so many such safety threats across the city, authorities are sleeping , real estate mafia & too much urbanization are dangerous...

i live here in this apartment , problem here was a wall which is of a old godown in apmc yard next to building compound . which is half left over part posed danger to our apartment , that wall only had a support of two trees attached to it , recently this yard was used as cement mixing & dumping old footpath interblocks here for smart city projects.where they had stock sand & concrete stones which pressurised wall from one side & caused this. our blind not so smart authorities wont even wake up after all this mess. they just want to make hefty of this projects. will govt compensate for loss as its APMC & Smart City project which caused this ?

When you construct buildings without proper safety standards and inherent risks in the surrounding areas these crashes are bound to happen. Most of the buildings in the city area of Mangalore are having such kind of compound and retaining walls without proper distance always pose a danger. Part of the smart city planning by smart people of Mangalore.
