Nairobi, Sep 15: Its small size in number notwithstanding, the Mangalorean Catholic community in Nairobi, Kenya celebrated Monti Fest with full religious fervour and traditional ado.
The celebration which began with the praying of Rosary at about 6.45 PM, on Saturday, 11th, at the family home of Mrs & Mr. Oliver, was followed by a solemn High Mass and a beautiful ceremony to honour Mother Mary by showering of flower petals. The theme - “MORI MAI AMKAM JEZU SORXIM VECHI VAT DAKOITA; JEZU THAIM EKVOTTAN SAMBALLTA” – helped the gathering to reflect over the vital role that Mother Mary plays in their day-to-day lives. Fr. Mervin Noronha SVD was the main celebrant, while Fr. Anto Poruthur SVD gave an inspiring homily. About 100 people, including some Goans & Kenyans, some non Catholics, and some Hindu and Muslim friends attended the celebration. A sumptuous meal marked the grand finale. Of course for fun lovers, there were plenty of spontaneous songs and jokes during the informal get together that accompanied the meals. All in all, everyone had a taste of Mangalorean piety, unity and communion."
