Mangalore, Sep 20: In an effort to maintain peace and order in the city ahead of the impending verdict on the Ayodhya issue by the Allahabad high court later this week, community leaders and heads of communal organisations have urged the public to remain calm irrespective of the nature of the judgement.

In a joint press meet held at Hotel Ocean Pearl here on Monday September 20, MLA U T Khader entreated the people to respect the Constitution and maintain the integrity and unity of the nation, while MLA Yogish Bhat informed that he had appealed to the leaders of both communities to abstain from violence and that they had pledged their support. He also warned that anyone found guilty of creating nuisance will be punished severly.

Addressing the media, VHP leader M B Puranik warned against emotional reactions to the verdict and said that people of both communities must welcome the court's decision with dignity. He cautioned against holding of protests or victory celebrations so as not to provoke violence. He also appealed to the media to exercise moderation in reporting on the issue.

The leaders of both Hindu and Muslim communities reaffirmed that they are determined to maintain peace on the day of the verdict in both Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.

Among those present were deputy commissioner V Ponnuraj, city police commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh, Muslim Central Committee president K S M Masood, chairman of Zeenath Baksh Jumma Masjid Committee and chancellor of Yenepoya University Yenepoya Abdulla Kunhi, Sharan Pumpwell, Vinay Shetty, Jagadish Shenava and others.

I hope everything goes well and the peace and harmony is not disturbed. Majority of the people don't want this violence and hatred but there are some elements in both communities (or any community for that matter) who indulge in spreading hatred and violence. I don't know what they gain from this. Life is short, make it sweet.

Although the intention's of this pess meet was good there was no need to give importance to Bajrang Dal in the stage. Bajrang Dal does not represent Hindu Community. They activities represent their own agenda but when it comes to receiving end it comes to Hindhu Community. Seers like Pajavar, Manila would have been better to be called els Dr Virendra Heggade would have better represented us sending a message to all community.

Please do understand roots of VHP leader M B Puranik. He is the correspondent of Sharada Vidyalaya, a BJP funded school. You can conclude where seeds are sown.

Dear Fatima, do not show your poor knowledge of Islam by saying that only Kaba is sacred to Muslims. what about Madina & Quds. do not try to be over smart. try to learn the proper spelling as MAKKAH and not Mecca. let us follow the constitution and that will be our duty,

As per historians many mosque built by razing down the temples in India. Hindus lived peacefully with grave injustices over centuries. Using wisdom, by withdrawing the claim for the Ram Temple-Babri Masjid land, Indian muslims could use this opportunity to demonstrate to the world that they are for Peace. After all, Kaaba in Mecca is the only place sacred for muslims as per Islamic belief.
