Mysuru, Aug 9: The staff of the forest mobile squad here has succeeded in unearthing the smuggling of a sticky substance that is found in the intestinal tract of the whales, which is also called as the whale's vomit. Four persons involved with the transportation of this material have been arrested.
The squad, based on tip off, conducted a check near Kushalnagar. 8.250 kg of Ambergris worth several crores of rupees, a car, and three mobile phones were confiscated. K A Ibrahim from Hodawada village, Kodagu district, B E Rafiq from Kushalnagar, M A Tahir Nakash from Hoskote and K M George from Kannur, Keala, were arrested. Main accused, identified as Riaz from Sapaje Koyanadu, Madikeri taluk, escaped.
When the vehicle was stopped, the accused had run away. Over 20 forest department staff chased and arrested them. A special investigating team has been formed to find the source of the Ambergris found in the car.
The whale's vomit is considered to be one of the most costly items that is used in making high quality perfumes. The material reportedly commands a price of about one crore rupees per kg.
