Mangaluru, Aug 9: Over 400 youths from Dakshina Kannada showed positive response to police commissioner N Shashi Kumar's call to join the police force. The police commissioner had urged youth aspiring to join the police force to take part in a month-long crash course two days ago.

More than 400 aspirants gathered at the police ground on Monday August 9 for registration.

It is a month-long crash course where interested aspirants will be trained by a team of police sub-inspectors who were recruited recently.

The police commissioner in his video had stated that very less number of aspirants from Dakshina Kannada join police force. He took the initiative to conduct the crash course so that more number of aspirants from the district come forward to join the police force. The first preference for candidates for training will be given to Dakshina Kannada, followed by Udupi, Chikkamagaluru and Uttara Kannada.

Those who willing to be part of the training programme should produce address, along with proof of physical test passed for PSI or constable post in any unit and also produce RT-PCR negative report.

Arrangements have been made for male and female aspirants. In the first batch, 100 aspirants will be trained. All the facilities will be provided for them. Study materials should be purchased by aspirants.

The registration desk had been set up for the aspirants to register themselves for the month-long training for which more than 400 aspirants registered themselves. St Aloysius College has arranged classrooms, staying facility and library for the aspirants.

The total number of aspirants are 604 out of which 566 are from Dakshina Kannada. Among them, 218 have registered for sub-inspector training while 386 for inspector. As many as 481 male and 123 female aspirants have registered themselves out of which 372 are graduates.

    (1) I hope modern day 21st century training methods and equipment are adopted rather than those used by the Flintstones. (2) Ordinary citizens lament about impolite behaviour by ground level police staff: Look at these photos and you may find one of the reasons. All over India, applicants to the police service(not the KPS,IPS) are treated poorly at the recruitment stage itself. They are made to sit in the mud and even write their exams on the ground. The session shown, could easily have been conducted in the big SP sabangan hall(or any other hall) which is just adjacent to the CP office. If these people get recruited : their “seniours” treat them with disrespect and strip them of human dignity instead of treating them as colleagues at work. This then translates into these men/women going out on the streets and venting their anger upon the ordinary citizen. (3)Merely, recruiting people and posting them to stand and salute their seniours and to act as “orderlies” or to run around elected representatives or other officials, does not solve the 40% shortage faced by the police service meant to protect the rights of ordinary citizens. The “only on paper and only in theory police beat system” should be implemented in practice. A 24 hrs police beat for every area within a radius of 2 km, consisting of 1 policeman in a policecar working in 8-hr shifts (with a max. of 2 hrs overtime)(except in real emergencies) such that no person works for more than 10 hrs in a 24 hr period. Each of these beats should have 2 persons during the nighttime hours. (4) a separately populated cell may be set up by the govt to protect VIP’s, ER’s, Judges and other administrators. At no time , should the police service meant to protect the ordinary citizen should be given other duties(even during election time etc.) that will distract him from his/her primary role of protecting the rights of the ordinary sovereign citizen.

Great job of police force in motivating local youngsters to join police force. When we were young we were not given such opportunities and end up landing in middle east and west now. God bless you chief of police for helping local youth.
