Mangalore: Special Cell to Implement Mangala Corniche Road Plan

Mangalore, Sep 22: A special purpose vehicle (SPV) named ‘Mangala Corniche Riverfront Development Project’ has been set up in Mangalore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) for implementing the ambitious corniche road project bordering the rivers flowing around the city. This information was given by MLA, Yogish Bhat, who also happens to be the chairman of Karnataka State Industrial Investment Development Corporation (KSIIDC).
He was speaking to press persons on Tuesday September 21, after participating in a meeting held at the office of the deputy commissioner for discussing technical aspects of the project.
“The deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district will be the implementing officer and convener of this cell. Stakeholders of the project, city corporation, MUDA, survey department, department of urban development, Coastal Development Authrority, KSIIDC and other concerns will be the members of this cell,” Bhat stated.
He revealed that the state government has already given its nod for preparing a detailed project report relating to the plan, and that the government will bear the cost thereof. KIPDC, a sister concern of KSIIDC, will prepare the report, he said. The project is planned to be executed with private-public partnership.
The meeting of the technical committee was held under the presidentship of deputy commissioner, V Ponnuraj, to consider implementation of the said project on the model of the town planning scheme of Gujarat. Vandita Sharma, managing director of KSIIDC, was present. Officials of Design Planning Council, Ahmedabad, and Infrastructure Development Foundation, gave details of the project implemented in their state.
The meeting decided to conduct an integrated survey about the building of a ring road touching Ullal, Kulur, Maravoor, gurpur, Kannur and Ullal. This 30-kms long ring road will be in the form of a necklace. The road, once built, will provide connection to three national highways.
PWD superintending engineer, B S Balakrishna, and city corporation commissioner, K N Vijayaprakash, were present.
