Mangalore: Police Flag March Showcases Strength to Garner Citizens' Trust

Mangalore Sep 23: The City police led by commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh held a flag march on Wednesday September 23 as a show of strength to boost confidence among citizens in the wake of any eventualities following a judgemnt by Allahabad High Court on Babri Masjid dispute scheduled to be delivered on Friday September 24.
Speaking to Daijiworld after the flag march police comissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh said that section 144 will be imposed from Friday September 24 and will go on till Sunday September 26 midnight in the
city to maintain peace. A total force of 1,500 men will be guarding the city which includes, Karnataka State Reserve Police, civil staff, home guards with around100 vehicles including police bus and jeeps, he said. Flag march will also be held in the sensitive areas like Ullal, Suratkal in the afternoon, he added.
There are no restrictions on indoor programmes like family function and cultural events that cannot be postponed. To build confidence among citizens FM channels are been informed about the issue and SMS
are sent and press meets were called to inform citizens that they should not lend their ears to the hoax information. Sale of liquor and burning crackers are banned on the days.
Deputy commissioner V Ponnuraj has also permitted the force to appoint extra majistrates in the city to issue orders for firing or lathi-charge if the situation goes out of control. The decision on preventive arrests as a precautinary measure will be taken based on the situation.
The superintendent of police A Subrahmanyeshwar Rao will be in-charge of rural areas for it is difficult to cover vast area with less inhabitants scattered all over. Yet the force is working by increasing the number of personnel within the capacity protect rural citizens.
He also said that the district citizens, religious and political leaders have already assured of maintaining peace in the city after the court verdict, whatever the decision. Yet precautions have been taken for the safety of the citizens by alerting doctors and ambulance services.
