New Delhi, Sep 23: Supreme Court here on Thursday September 23 stayed the Ayodhya verdict till Sep 28. The apex court stayed the verdict while hearing a special leave petition filed by retired bureaucrat Ram Chandra Tripathi.
Staying the verdict which was scheduled to be out on Friday September 24 as per order of Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court, the court also issued notices to contesting parties on the petition seeking stay on the Allahabad High Court order which refused to defer the verdict in the suit. It is also speculated that the deferment may be prolonged.
One of the three judges in the Lucknow bench, however, disagreed with the majority order rejecting the plea for deferring the Ayodhya verdict to allow mediation and gave a dissenting opinion that an amicable settlement could have been explored. Justice Dharam Veer Sharma, while not concurring with the view of the other two judges, Justice S U Khan and Justice Sudhir Agarwal also said in his dissenting judgement that he wasn't consulted when the three-judge bench gave the order while dismissing the plea for mediation. Sharma is due to retire on Oct 1.
In the wake of the deferment, the orders including closure of educational institutions and imposing of Sec 144 among others in the state too stands withdrawn.
