Mangalore, Sep 29: Heavy rains that lashed the coast on Tuesday September 28 night, took the residents of the coastline unawares. The city residents were one of the worst hit, as unfinished concrete roads, dug out trenches and blocked drains created additional problems for the free flow of water.
Shanti Soudha apartment located near Mathias Park in Falnir here suffered damages, as the retaining wall built by it’s side crashed to the ground. The city corporation has dug trenches by the side of the retaining wall for road works, in which rain water got deposited and resulted in the crash of the wall. The residents of the 12 flats in the complex are finding it difficult to venture outside because of mud and debris that have got deposited at their doorsteps. One of the flats at the ground floor suffered damages to windows and walls in the incident.
Stock of dry fish and other fish products stored in a dry fish godown located in Bamboo Bazar, Bunder here, were damaged, as rain water entered the godown. As water level suddenly rose in the road outside, it entered the premises and drenched the goods stored on the floor. Quantum of loss in both the above incidents is yet to be estimated.
