CM promises to discuss with legal experts in Delhi on water disputes

Bengaluru, Aug 24: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said he will be visiting Delhi on Wednesday (August 25) and will discuss with legal experts on inter-state water disputes pertaining to Karnataka on Thursday.

“The State Government is committed to do everything possible to protect the interests of Karnataka on matters water sharing and border issues as well as protect the language,’’ he said mentioning that State’s Advocate General and legal experts will be participating in the Delhi meeting.

Bommai said he has already sought time to meet Union Water Resources, Finance, Agriculture and Defence Ministers for holding discussions on issues pertaining to Karnataka.

The expert committee on Covid management and control would continue, he said and mentioned that the Union government’s disaster management committee was likely to visit to State in October.

The State Government is taking all steps to prevent the Covid third wave and will be holding separate meetings with experts and the ministers concerned, he said.

KHDC directed to submit business development plan

The Chief Minister later held a meeting on the revival of Karnataka Handloom Development Corporation officials and directed them to evolve and submit a business development plan immediately for the revival of the Corporation.

He advised to expand commercial activities and fulfil the losses the Corporation has incurred.

When the officials brought to Chief Minister’s notice that the corporation has incurred Rs 10 crore losses in uniform supply to education department, Chief Minister assured that the Government would bear Rs. 5 crore and the rest of the amount shall be fulfilled through the business of the corporation.

Bommai directed to issue circular to all the departments to procure at least 25 per cent of the clothes required from KHDC.

He suggested to take up skill development activities for weavers in private partnership to enhance their skill and income and to develop the land owned by the Corporation in Peenya in partnership with Mysuru Minerals Limited and make it productive.

The Chief Minister asked officials to make tie ups with design agencies to help weavers expand their markets especially in urban areas and come out with a proposal of setting up of stores showcasing handloom and handicraft products under one roof and also tap the potential of online sale of these products.

Siddu Savadi, Chairman KHDC, Additional Chief Secretary Finance Department ISN Prasad, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister N Manjunath Prasad, Commerce and Industries (MSME) Secretary Pankaj Kumar Pandey and other officials were present.

The Chief Minister later met a delegation led by Former MP and Chairman of Kalyana Karnataka Human Resources, Agriculture and Cultural Association Basavaraj Patil Sedam and held discussions on the issues pertaining to the development of northern Karnataka region.
