Udupi, Aug 29: The season of festivals is here and the temple town of Udupi is bustling with activity, albeit on a subdued note. Amid Covid restrictions and regulations with regard to celebrations, the district has begun preparations to celebrate the iconic Sri Krishna Janmashtami festival this week.
Due to Covid scare, the Krishna Math administration has decided against holding grand celebrations. Asthami and Vitlapindi celebrations will be limited to traditions and rituals without public display of grandeur.
On Monday August 30, Sri Krishna Janmashtami celebrations will be held at Sri Krishna Math. Paryaya Sri Eshapriyateertha Swamiji will offer one lac tulsi leaves to Lord Krishna on Monday. At midnight 'Argya Pradhana' ceremony will be held at the Math.
Arrangements have been made for the participation of devotees during Arghya Pradhana at two separate stations at Kanakana Kindi and at Vasantha Mantapa.
Vitlapindi celebrations will also be held in a subdued manner strictly adhering to the traditions and Covid norms.
Devotees are allowed to take darshan of Lord Krishna on both days. On the auspicious day of Asthami, devotees can visit the temple from 8 am to 6 pm. On Tuesday August 31, devotees are allowed to take darshan between 7.30 am and 1 pm and then after 5 pm. Devotees are not allowed during the Rathotsava.
Car Street has been already decked up for the celebrations. 'Gurjis' are been placed for the traditional Mosaru Kudike celebrations. Chakkuli-unde have also been prepared for the prasadam. Flower vendors have arrived in the city to make the most of the festivities.
The administration has requested devotees to strictly wear masks and adhere to Covid restrictions during their visit to the temple.
