Bengaluru, Aug 30: After the reopening of Classes from 9th Standard to Pre-University students from August 26, the State Government has decided to reopen physical classes for students of Classes 6th to 8th Standards from September 6.

The State Government took the decision at a high-level review meeting on Covid-19 based on the recommendations of the Technical Advisory Committee s chaired by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai in Bengaluru on Monday.

Revenue Minister R Ashok, who announced the decisions at a press conference late in the evening, said classes will be re-opened for the students of Classes 6th 8th Standard only in taluks that have a Covid test positivity rate of below 2 per cent.

The minister made it clear that classes would be held on alternative days for the students with all Covid norms in place while pointing out that attendance should not cross 50 per cent in the classes.

5-day classes

In all, the classes would be held five days a week while the remaining two days would have to be utilised by the school authorities to sanitise the classrooms and premises, the minister said.

Guidelines for Ganesha Festival on Sept 5

After assessment of Covid pandemic situation in the State, Ashok said the Chief Minister will decide on allowing public celebration of Ganesha festival which falls on September 10.

The Chief Minister will take the decision on permitting celebration of Ganesha festival on September 5 after another round of talks with experts, the minister said.

Weekend Curfew to continue in DK, Udupi, Kodagu, Hassan

The Revenue Minister announced that the weekend curfew will be continued in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Kodagu and Hassan districts.

Institutional quarantine of 7 days is mandatory for students of Kerala coming to Karnataka, the minister said and made it clear that the students will have to undergo Covid tests after completing the mandatory 7-day institutional quarantine.

Ashok explained that the experience of physical classes conducted for Classes 9th, 10th and PUC students was by and large fairly successful. Of the 6,472 students who attended classes, barely 14 had tested positive. “This is negligible compared to the total number of total students attending,’’ he said making it clear that the physical classes will be continued for classes 9th, 10th standards and first and second year PUC.

Apart from Revenue Minister R Ashok and Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr K Sudhakar, Primary and Secondary Education Minister B C Nagesh, Urban Development Minister S T Somashekar, Chief Secretary P Ravikumar, Director General of Police Praveen Sood, Medical Experts Dr Devi Prasad Shetty, Dr Sudarshan and Dr C N Manjunath and other senior officials attended the meeting.

This is what happens when incompetent people take stupid decisions without understanding the ground reality. Its an experiment by a committee and the Government with no common sense to play with lives of children. Schools need collect fees and fill the govt empty coffers. It's practically impossible ensure adherence to Covid safety protocols in school for children in these classes. They have not learnt lessons from the second wave after Unlock earlier this year. When hasty decisions are taken this is what happens. Need of the hour is to continue with online education, focus on children appearing for boards and wait till children get vaccinated. Dont use half baked knowledge and treat children as test cases to further your failed political interests and fortunes...

Absolutely agree with you comments. First of all Government should ensure vaccinating the children before starting the physical attendance. I do understand currently India does not have a vaccination available to cater children like other countries have. Till such time they should not make these little children as scapegoat's. Many of the children live with their grand parents who are aged and these children will be a carrier of these virus back home. One cant impose social distance and mask all the time with children of this age one should understand their maturity level. I just hope and pray that schools take the firm decision not to venture in to this foolish decision and wait for the right moment to come when the children are fully vaccinated and safe.

This is nothing short of an experiment by this so called expert committee and the Government to play with lives of children treated like laboratory mice keeping in view of the third wave. Of course schools need collect fees which is another reason. Everybody knows no one follows Covid safety protocols in school. Except maybe one or two days when inspectors show up. This is what happened in January February this year before second lockdown happened. Schools were hardly open for one and half month. When hasty decisions are taken this is what happens. Need of the hour is to carry on with online education and wait till children also get vaccinated at least in urban areas.

So there's a lot of students and working population living close to the border who go up and down from their respective institutions daily. How are they supposed to manage if they are supposed to quarantine? Expect a lot of protests in the next couple of days. This just goes to show that even though the vaccinations are mandatory, the injections are not respected and have no value.

Absolutely. right. Wondering the student community and working class from border cities like Manjwshwar/Kasaragod who are shuttling on a daily basis to Mangalore could go for a institutional quarantine! Besides, many are depending on Mangalore for medical reasons and also for paying social visits to their nearest family members for short durations. Many are concerned over this new s .....Daijiworld, please get some clarity on this new rule in the interest of your valued readers. Thanks

this is a bad decision.... just because covid case isn't increasing doesn't mean open school for kids, focus on vaccinating....... not indirectly forcing parents to pay the school fees

First of all there is no point of this weekend curfew and the funny part is adding Udupi to the list which was not there earlier . I read a news in daijiworld that district in-charge Minister of Udupi has communicated about starting schools in Udupi since the positivity rate has fallen in last few days but on the other side they have imposed weekend curfew in Udupi. Not sure what's happening. Are they taking serious decisions ?

Wake up before it is too late.just wait for longer and we all will become slaves of evil elites like Bill Gates through these fake pandemic hoax. Just look around and see what's happening in other countries which is hidden by Fake media and Big Tec. Never believe politicians and bureaucrats who think they are above any laws, let's take back our freedom by reminding them that they are not our bosses but we are the real Masters who will decide what's good for us. This will continue as long as we believe their lies and give away our freedoms which they won't give back unless most people are awakened and stop corrupt politicians and pharma mafia dictating what we should do and what we are allowed to do. If still we don't become "Atmanirbhar" then be ready to surrender all our constitutional rights and end of democracy is guaranteed after a few years.
