Mangalore: Beary Study Centre to be Named After Late Dr Wahab

Mangalore, Oct 3: The Beary Study Centre will be  named after the noted litterateur and scholar late Dr Abdul Wahab who passed away on Friday October 1, informed All India Beary Parishat president B A Muhammed Haneef .





He was addressing the meeting organized to pay tribute to the late Dr Wahab at the Parishat office on Saturday October 2.

Lauding the contribution of Dr Wahab to the growth of Muslim literature, Haneef said that he had a dream of establishing Beary Study Centre where an intensive research on the Beary culture and literature can be made. Hence the Parishat has decided to name the centre after him as ‘Dr Wahab Doddamane Memorial Study Centre’ which will start functioning shortly.

Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy members Aziz Baikampady and Humza Malar , Bantwal town panchayat member Riyaz Bantwal, Ullal durga vice-president Rashidh Ullal and  Beary Sahtya Parishat vice-president B A Akbar Ali amon others spoke on the occasion and remembered their association with Dr Wahab. Ismail Kaikamba presided over the meeting.

Dr Wahab has the credit of producing the ‘English-Kannada-Beary’ dictionary. He has also produced a book entitled The Muslims of Dakshina Kannada, which is an informative documentary work.
