Mangalore: Vishwas Trust Celebrates Elders’ Day

Mangalore, Oct 8: To mark the world elders’ day which falls on October 1 every year, Vishwas Trust at Valencia here celebrated it on Friday October 8.
The programme commenced with the prayer song by the staff and MSW students. Secretary of the trust Felcy introduced the chief guest Sharat Alva to the gathering. Addressing the senior citizens, Alva suggested how they can lead a contented life by adjusting to the present generation.
Veronica Pereira spoke on the significance of World Elders’ Day. She said that the director of Vishwas Trust Olinda Pereira had the vision to celebrate the Elders’ Day in a unique way.
Prizes were distributed for the winners who participated in patriotic songs and drawing competition to held to mark Vanamahotsava. Administrative assistant Merilyne announced the names of the winners and prizes were given by chief guest Sharath Alva.
Spot games were conducted by MSW student Treeza D’Souza followed by the cultural programme which was thoroughly enjoyed by the elderly.
Rita Pinto welcomed the gathering. The programme was compered by Leticia Fernandes and Molly Mathias from Bejai Vishwas Day Centre. Rosa Rego of Valencia Day Centre proposed the vote of thanks. Grace before meal was said by Jessie Baretto, member of Valencia Day Centre.
As many as 100 Elderly people actively participated in the celebrations.
