Mangalore Oct 11: The Milagres parish in the city, dedicated to the Lady of Miracles, celebrated the centenary of the church on Sunday October 10. During this centenary year, which was inaugurated by the Bishop of Mangalore, Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, a number of programmes were held under the leadership of Fr Walter D’Mello, parish priest of Milagres, for the people of the parish.
During this jubilee year, the church had organized various functions on almost every Sunday. This year, after a lapse of 40 years, the church celebrated its parish feast in a way it used to be celebrated every year in the past.
A Holy Mass was held at 5 pm, followed by solemn Eucharistic procession to honour the Blessed Sacrament. This procession started from the church premises, and proceeded to St Mary’s Margil School grounds, where it wound up with the benediction.
At 6.30 pm on Tuesday October 12, there will be solemn vespers, followed by fire-works.
On Wednesday October 13, on the occasion of the Feast of the Lady of Miracles, known as the parish feast, solemn high mass will be celebrated by the Bishop of Gulbarga diocese, Dr Robert Miranda, along with other priests, at 10 am. The churche, as well as its entire compound, have been elaborately decorated for these events. Nearly twenty stalls dealing in various items have been set up, and the parishioners and others are eagerly waiting for the ‘Santh-mari’ fete to begin in the premises.
