Ajman, Oct 17: A Clinical Training Agreement between the ministry of health, United Arab Emirates and the Gulf Medical University, Ajman was signed on the recently in the presence of Dr Hanif Hassan, minister of health, UAE represented by Dr Amin Hussain Al Amiri, CEO for medical practice and license, ministry of health, UAE and Gulf Medical University, Ajman represented by provost Dr Gita Ashok Raj and Prof Manda Venkataramana, dean of GMC, Ajman .
The agreement lays down cooperation between the ministry of health, UAE and Gulf Medical University for academic cooperation, clinical training of GMU students in ministry of health hospitals and community health centers. It has also been agreed to accredit GMC Hospital, Ajman as a teaching hospital at the earliest.
The agreement also permits and accommodates 3rd, 4th and 5th year students of Gulf Medical University to utilize the teaching facilities at various ministry of health hospitals. Moreover, the graduates of Gulf Medical University will have tremendous opportunities after completion of their degree programme to work as interns in these hospitals. In this manner they would be getting full exposure to the local healthcare sector and training under professionals working at various ministry of health hospitals.
The minister of health Dr Hanif Hassan said, "Gulf Medical University is a very prominent institution and has a very good relation with us and we will make it stronger by conducting many more joint activities.”
He also appreciated the efforts of Gulf Medical University in complimenting the activities of the ministry of health and said, "This agreement is only an initial step between the ministry of health and Gulf Medical University that will compliment the requirements and services for mutual benefit.” The ministry of health has agreed to extend full academic cooperation to the Gulf Medical University, Ajman in the future.
Dr Gita Ashok Raj emphasized on the fact that Gulf Medical University is working very closely with the ministry of health to support the ever-increasing demands of the local healthcare in the private sector.
