Mangalore: Vaccination drive organized at Neermarga church

Mangalore, Sep 28: The Health Commission of St Joseph the Worker Church, Neermarga in fraternization with primary health centre, Adyar organized a vaccination camp on Sunday September 26, in the parish hall for parishioners and the public. This drive has given a boost to fight against Covid19.

The event initiated with an invocation by the parish choir imploring for God’s assistance to comfort the cries of the weary, The pains of the distressed and the hunger of the oppressed. The vaccination drive was inaugurated by lighting the lamp by Fr Anil Canute D'Mello, parish priest, Ravi Saldanha, vice president of parish pastoral council, Prakash Pereira, secretary of parish pastoral council, Francis Gonsalves, coordinator, health commission, Maurice Renjal, coordinator of parish pastoral commissions.

Francis Gonsalves accorded a warm and sociable welcome to the August Assemblage. Speaking on the occasion, Fr Anil D Mello said “If God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. We should fend ourselves and others against this disease. Prevention is still our best approach against COVID-19, and right now, the best thing we can do for our health is to get a COVID-19 vaccine for which we are here. Let us also keep in mind and practice good salutariness, wear a face mask and keeping distance from others that will prevent the spread of the corona virus”.

He further lauded the relentless services of the primary health centre staff in administering their duties with utmost dedication, professionalism and transparency. The camp was conducted under the able leadership of Fr Anil D'Mello, Francis Gonsalves, Dr Puneeth, medical officer, Primary Health Centre, Sherife, lab technician, Jayashree, data entry operator, nursing officers - Ashwitha, Sheetal Peres and Alice Pereira, ASHA workers Flavia D'Souza and Prathiba, Gretta Rodrigues, Reshma Pereira and Kevin Fernandes, ICYM aided in the smooth running of the camp.

A total of 247 beneficiaries were vaccinated. As manu as 67 people got vaccinated through walk-ins and the rest were vaccinated through prior appointments.

Reshma Pereira, secretary, health commission proposed the vote of thanks. Prasad Vas compered the programme.
