Mangaluru: 17th ‘Kalakar Puraskar’ conferred on Nihal Tauro at Kalaangann

Mangaluru, Nov 9: "A person returning home tired gets back his zeal when his mother showers love on him. In this way, I wish that this award being given on behalf of Mother Konkani will multiply Nihal's zeal manifold," wished noted poet-cum-author, Jayanth Kaikini.

He was speaking after taking part in a function held in the open air theatre of Kalaangann here on November 7 to present the 17th ‘Kalakar Puraskar’ to Indian Idol fame Nihal Tauro. Tauro was felicitated at the programme by draping a shawl around him besides offering fruits, flowers, memento, certificate and Rs 25,000 in cash.

"The people who have gathered here are lucky. Because we have successfully survived two lockdowns and the menace of Covid. This pandemic has taught us precious meanings of life. It has taught us to be concerned about others and of the need to live harmoniously by supporting each other," he explained.

Speaking after accepting the honour, Nihal said he is grateful and overwhelmed at the honour extended to him, as he belongs to a small place. "Support of my parents and fans has helped me to achieve this feat. I lived the dream of reaching the finals of the I Indian Idol contest. But this is not the end. Awards like this spur people like me to reach still greater heights by putting in more effort," he said. At the end, he rendered the song, 'Ninnindale' authored by Jayanth Kaikini by way of tribute to the late Puneeth Rajkumar.

Genevieve Lewis of Carvalo family provided information about the award. Mandd Sobhann office bearers, Eric Ozario, Louis J Pinto, Stany Alvares, and Kishore Fernandes were present. Vice president Sunil Monteiro read out the citation. Irene Rebello compered the programme.

Carvalo family members, Fr Prathap Naik, John Carvalo, Valerian Carvalo, Florine Lobo, Felix Lobo, Liberta Carvalo, Renita Lobo, Jeffrey Carvalo, Janis Carvalo and Nihal family members, Herald Prescilla Tauro and Nishan Tauro were present at the felicitation.

Konkani translation' of Shakespeare's 'A Midsummer Night's Dream', 'Gimaluya Ratichem Swapan'; play was staged by Mandd team artistes by way of the 239th monthly theatre series. The play was translated by Arunraj Rodrigues. Viddu Uchil had directed it. Alban Honnavar, Alslan Permannur, Amrin Shaktinagar, Adlin Belman, Imani Kulshekar, Flavia Shaktinagar, Jasmine Vamanjoor, Jeevan Mundagod, Preethika Vamanjoor, Sandeep Shaktinagar, Samuel Gurpur, Sujaya Valencia, Vindon Kirem, Vreethan Bajjodi, and Romario Shaktinagar formed the Mandd team. Ketan Castelino, Reynold Lobo and Manish Pinto were associated with the music. Shivaram managed stage arrangement and costumes while Kingsley Nazareth handled light while Surabhi Sounds arranged the sound system.
