Udupi, Nov 16: Karnataka Lokayukta P Vishwanath Shetty visited the district on Tuesday November 16. Shetty visited and inspected the city primary health centre, government board high school and few other residential institutions under the state government.

Speaking to the media, Shetty said, "I have visited the district to inspect the vaccination drive and Covid protocols followed here. This visit largely focused on the measures to maximize vaccination drive to the fullest in the district. Schools and colleges have reopened. I have ordered the Lokayukta police to check and enforce the prescribed Covid norms in the schools and colleges along with the district administration. Even if a single student suffers due to any inconvenience, it might lead to a big issue. This might even impact the education of the children. The Education department, district administration and competitive agencies should enforce this mission to the fullest.

"Vaccination should be taken by all the individuals. Doctors have also assured that there are no side effects from taking the vaccines. In fact, it is learnt that vaccination reduces the fatality and it protects us from major side effects of Covid. Cleanliness is very important for children and others. Extreme care should be taken by the individuals for the next 2-3 months. Karnataka will be Covid-free. Districts of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada should secure 1st and 2nd place in vaccination,” he said.

Speaking about the inspection conducted in Udupi district he said, "I have not found any such major lapses. I have not come here to find loopholes. I have given suggestions to the administration to improve in a few sections. If the loopholes are highlighted, the purpose of my visit will not be fulfilled. The main reason for my visit was about the vaccination drive and following of Covid norms in the school premises. Few improvements are needed in the state-run women hostels. I have discussed those with the district commissioner and zilla panchayat CEO.”

Deputy commissioner Kurma Rao, zilla panchayat CEO Dr Navin Bhat and district health officer Dr Nagabhushan Udupa were present.
