Bengaluru, Nov 17: In a an unexpected turn a few Congress leaders of Udupi district met KPCC president D K Shivakumar on Wednesday November 17 and urged him to give the MLC election ticket to Dr M N Rajendra Kumar from Congress.
Former minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, former MLA Gopal Poojary and Kanachur Mohan along with Dr M N Rajendra Kumar met Shivakumar.
It is learnt that the veteran leaders demanded to provide the MLC election ticket from Dakshina kannada-Udupi to Rajendra Kumar. It may be recalled, Rajendra Kumar had announced to contest the MLC polls as an independent candidate two days ago. His election office was also inaugurated soon after.
Earlier during the announcement of polls, there were 11 Congress aspirants. Later on in a surprising move, ground-level worker of the party, Bhujanga Shetty from Brahmavar, was expected to be a unanimous candidate from DK-Udupi from the party.
Only time will tell if cooperative leader Rajendra Kumar backed by a few Congress leaders will get the election ticket from the party.
