Mangaluru: Police arrest accused absconding for 16 years

Mangaluru, Nov 18: Police arrested an accused who was absconding for the past 16 years after obtaining bail from the court in connection with a case of illegal transportation of two litres of sandalwood oil from Puttur to Kerala state.

The arrested accused is identified as Mohammed Rafiq M M, a resident of Thayal house, Kolambadi, Kasargod. A case was registered in Puttur Rural police station under Karnataka Forest Act against him.

According to police, the accused, after obtaining bail from the court, was absconding without appearing before the court. After the court issued the arrest warrant, police have finally succeeded in arresting the accused.

The operation to arrest the accused was undertook under the guidance of DySP Puttur sub-ddivision Gana P Kumar, circle inspector Umesh Uppalike, sub-inspector Udayaravi M Y, Ameenasabha M Athavar, head constable Adrama and Praveen Ravi. The accused was arrested in Kannur and produced before the court. The court sent him to judicial custody.
