Mangaluru, Nov 19: In an incident which happened at Daddalkad near Urwa Store in the city recently, men who posed as municipal officials entered a house, stole gold ornaments and cash.

Two persons arrived at a house in Daddalkad where a lady lives alone, at around 10.30 am on November 16. They introduced themselves as health department officials of the city corporation and claimed that they were there to verify cleanliness aspects. They led the lady to the rear side of her house and acted like checking the cleanliness of the surroundings there. The woman then sought help from a neighbouring woman. The neighbour expressed suspicion about the visitors and sought to check the identity cards of the visitors. The two said that the cards were in the motorbike and returned in their two-wheelers. The lady checked in the evening and found that 68 grams of gold ornaments and Rs 71,000 in cash were stolen from the almirah placed inside her house.

It is said that when the two men were talking to the lady in the backyard, another person clandestinely entered the house unnoticed by the lady. He used the key of the almirah that was hung close to the almirah, and took away cash and ornaments, it is learnt.

Urwa station police personnel who have registered a case of theft, are now verifying the CCTV footages in the area.

We all mangalorean people have one bad habit.I am sure most of us close the cupboard ,lock it and keep the key just above the cupboard or hang it nearby.what is the use of locking it and leaving the key just above or in a drawer?etc.Thieves have no problems to open and get to heels before one sees.I say please dont keep valueables in cupboard .but elsewhere.Thieves first look into cupboards.Valueables can be kept in Bank.First important ,nowadays when someone comes to control ,please dont allow them enter house.Noone can enter your house without reason and ,without warrant from higher officials.Call police to make them unsure or atleast as if you are calling Police.ask them to show their identity card and see if any seal is there. When you take more time to control them ,will make them unsure their position.Call a nieghbour to help.Noone has any business to come in unless you let them in.take care yourself.sad she lost money gold.Try to make a foto of people if possible so that later to recognize them.

Now a days educated people also in this kind of work is stunning. Thank God the lady had the wisdom to call her neighbor for help otherwise her life would have been in peril. Some one must be observing her since long time. Looks like living alone is inviting these devils to harm
